Our Mission:
At Maggie’s Homestead, our goal is to share the joys and benefits of homesteading with our community. We want to educate and involve people of all ages in agriculture, gardening, and animal care.
Who Can Benefit:
Our homestead is open to seniors, school kids, and boy and girl scouts and anyone with an interest in nature. We believe that everyone can benefit from the tranquility and sense of accomplishment that comes from working with the land.
Activities:
Here are just a few of the activities you can expect when you visit Maggie’s Homestead:
- Tree Farming: Visitors can learn about the process of pruning, fertilizing, and producing fruit. They can even have their own little section of trees to care for and harvest. And at the end of the season, we’ll sell the fruit at our fruit stand, with proceeds going back to support the homestead.
- Beekeeping: Our beekeeping program teaches visitors how to collect honey and start new hives. In the future, we’re even planning to build a bee house where visitors can sit and experience the smells and sounds of the bees up close.
- Farm Animals: We have chickens laying eggs and goats to milk and make cheese. Visitors can also work with animals in college programs to become vets.
- Alligator Farming: Our aquaculture program includes alligator farming and teaches visitors about the life cycle of plants, fish, and alligators.
- Exotics: We even have a tiger named Romeo that visitors can interact with.
